For nearly 20 years, Bank Square Books has been a feature of downtown Mystic, CT.
In 2006, three local women took ownership of the independent Mystic, CT bookstore. Now in Fall 2010, Annie and Patience continue with their ownership and passion for bookselling.
Bank Square Books is a comfortable cosmopolitan place to find a good read and to chat about books. Annie and Patience and their fabulous staff of booksellers continue to work hard to honor the motto of Bank Square Books, "locally owned and fiercely independent."
We work hard to serve our discerning, opinionated local readers, area schools, and regional organizations and businesses, as well as our numerous summer visitors.
Browse our book shelves and you'll find a wide selection of classics and new titles. Don't see what you're looking for? We can special-order the book of your choice. Just stop by, or drop us an email with your request. And consider joining our free Frequent Buyer Program to save a little money on your purchases. For every $200 you spend, you receive a $10 coupon to use in the store. With the exception of gift cards, all purchases count. Please remind us when you are checking out that you are a member of our special club.
For us it’s not just about selling books; it’s about building vibrant community relations. We serve the needs of school libraries and book fairs throughout the Connecticut region.
Whenever possible, we collaborate with local libraries and arts organizations (such as the Mystic Arts Center and the Lyman Allyn Art Museum) to host large-scale author events.
We work with the James Merrill House artist-in-residency program in Stonington, CT and twice a year we work with the Fairfield University Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program at Enders Island.
Firm believers in buying local, we are a focus for the American Independent Business Alliance in this region and are a founder of SEA, the Southeastern Business Alliance, A Wave of Local Independent Businesses. Did you know that for every $100 spent in your local community, that $68 stays in the town, whereas that $100 spent elsewhere only $43 benefits your community. So please shop locally!
