Dear Jan-Philipp,

Your writing is beautiful.  Your understanding of love and forgiveness and what lies in between,  is unknown to most.  You convey such emotion with words, with a look of a glance.  There is something truly magical in your understanding and conveyance of the Burmese people and their way of life and philosophy of living with simplicity.  Most of us could benefit from listening to our heartbeats and being a little more patient, and find a little more love and forgiveness in our busy lives.

Dispell those nasty rumors that we are closing! It is NOT TRUE!

Dear Loyal Customers,

There is a vicious rumor being spread in New London, CT that Bank Square Books is closing.  As one of the owners, I can assure you that this is NOT TRUE whatsoever.  We are alive and well, thriving with great books and author events, a wonderful and helpful staff and most of all, our loyal customers.  Recovery from Tropical Storm Sandy was complete almost six months ago when we reopened on November 16th, 2012, and the Saturday after Thanksgiving was our biggest day of sales ever.  Our sales for 2012 were up overall, and we are till going strong.

I don't know where this rumor originated or who is being so spiteful to give it fire but we want to douse this immediately.

IT IS NOT TRUE.

Our store has been the anchor store in downtown Mystic for more than 25 years and, thanks to all of your support, we plan to be here for many more.  Come and see us anytime, visit our website for future author events and staff picks, and pay a visit on Saturday, May 4th for the Mystic Stroll and support our local authors at the store.

From you locally owned and fiercely independent bookstore,

Our thoughts about yesterday's tragedy in Boston

April 16, 2013

Dear independent booksellers of New England,

Unbeknownst to us, some members of the NEIBA board and our
community were on a conference call yesterday afternoon just as the
unfathomable tragedy was unfolding in Boston, right outside some of our
windows.  We were laughing,
and feeling pretty good about the world.  It was only after we hung up that the senseless chaos reigning in our
midst became clear.

I am finding it hard to think of much else this morning and
imagine many of you are feeling the same. So take the time today to give
your loved ones a hug, whether near or from afar, be thankful and kind, and spend the time
talking to your customers who wander into your store looking for some
solace and comfort after yesterday.  Our bookstores hold a place in our
communities where people go to escape their lives, to talk to a real
person and just sit in a comfy chair surrounded by personally curated literature.
This is what we do, who we are, so let's make an extra effort to step away from our
desks and computers and provide a safe and compassionate place for
people to share their anger and grief today.

With you in spirit,
Annie Philbrick
