Savoy Bookshop & Café presents a Bricks & Murals book signing with Jay Robert Allen, the author of The Walldogs: A Different Breed of Public Art Muralists and member of the Walldogs, the group that will be descending on Westerly and Pawcatuck to design murals throughout the community. The book signing will be an open house event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 15, as part of the Bricks and Murals festival.
About the Book
Public Art was turned upside down in August of 1993 when The Walldogs - America's curious band of public art muralists - first applied paint on a wall to tell the story of a small town in the Midwest. Since their inception it has turned into a worldwide movement producing over 500 murals around the globe. In just 4 to 5 days, between 10 and 20 murals are added by hundreds of artists - and the eager community that assists. A study in human dynamics as much as a beautiful collection of phototgraphs of the work - the people - the community members - and the places The Walldogs have been over their many years. 4-color offset printing, perfect binding with 80# cover stock pages - each with a lovely satin aqeous coating. From the printing to the content, this book is a beautiful treasure.
