Staff Picks

Having grown up in Montana, I have always had one foot in the Rockies and the other one wading in the Atlantic Ocean. My book interests are schizophrenic as well, because I have never stopped reading children’s books. I especially love children’s book illustrators, my favorite being Maurice Sendak.

Jennifer is currently writing the newsletter at Bank Square Books and is having a great time choosing new books every month.  Her personal tastes are for nature or science writing, current events/foreign affairs, and well-crafted fiction.  When she's not reading or writing for the store, Jennifer enjoys working with horses, gardening, cooking, and going to folk or bluegrass concerts.

Books, books, books—I can never read enough of them. My preference is well-written fiction, but I do enjoy a good nonfiction or gardening book, such as The Widow Clicquot or Our Life in Gardens. A recent favorite is A Reliable Wife by Robert Goorlick. After my family, color is my favorite thing. I enjoy yoga, rowing, gardening, raising chickens, and, of course, reading more than one book at a time. 

Andy tries to keep up with his reading when he’s not working as an editor or serving as the online voice of Bank Square Books. He tends to read nonfiction but likes good writing above all else.

It’s hard to pick favorites, but my tastes tend toward fiction, particularly historical fiction, and memoirs. I will also read almost anything about being on the water, from Stuart Little on his sailboat in Central Park to accounts of ’round-the-world ocean racing and cruising. Sailing—or reading about it—is where you’ll find me when I’m not at the bookstore.
