About the Book

Niyah Zuri and the Pharaoh's Throne follows self-assured heroine Niyah Zuri as she and her best friends, Miguel and Hugo Gonzales, travel through time with the use of a mystical map. Readers are taken on an adventure with every turn of the page as the trio forge their friendship through exploration.

The series begins its epic tale when Niyah & the Gonzales twins discover an enchanted map in their clubhouse & are accidentally teleported to the Triassic period. After evading carnivorous dinosaurs, the time jumping continues as they're sent back to Ancient Egypt in order to help a young Prince Tut overcome his fear of rule. The group race against time to complete their mission, returning to their time period in haste as the Pharaoh’s sudden death has the royal guards suspicious of Tut’s foreign visitors.

Niyah Zuri and the Pharaoh’s Throne comes equipped with a full glossary that exposes children to a broad vocabulary that will both challenge and educate them! This book and its affiliated resources comply with the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

About the Author

Anna Nyakana-Nesmith was born in Berlin, Germany in 1986 to a Ugandan father and German-Moldavian mother. Her family immigrated to the States in the early 90's, settling in Stamford, Connecticut. Anna began singing at the age of 6, learned to read music and play the clarinet at the age of 8, taught herself how to play the guitar at 14, and studied classical piano at 16. She spent her remaining teenage years honing her skills of song-writing and live performance until self-releasing her debut album in 2007. Her hit-single "Just a Day," crowned her the winner of the “Starbucks Music Makers Competition” online vote. Anna's distinctive sound led to digital distribution with over thirty companies including iTunes, Amazon.com and iHeart Radio. She continued forward, promote her album and playing in countless venues including MGM Grand at Foxwoods Casino & Resort - Ledyard, CT, Fox Theater at Foxwoods Casino & Resort - Ledyard, CT, Penn State University- Philadelphia, PA, SOB'S - New York, NY, Bryant Park - New York, NY, Canal Room - New York, NY, Piano's - New York, NY, Barnes & Noble – Stamford, CT, and The Fire - Philadelphia, PA. In 2010, Anna competed in the Emmy award winning television show "Community Auditions," which taped in the legendary MGM grand at Foxwoods Casino and Resort. After winning the Star of the Day in her first round, Anna advanced through the nine-month competition; gaining over 90,000 votes worldwide to place in the Championship finals and was recognized as the only artist to perform original music for every round in the competition.

Anna Nyakana-Nesmith proceeded to attain her Bachelors degree in Business in 2011 and soon after extended her writing talents into her first literary work, The Student Survival Guide to Online College. Anna was able to guide thousands of students during their journey of attaining higher education through an online platform through this quick guide but yearned to help a different demographic close to her heart: children. After starting a family of her own, she realized there was an overwhelming need for multicultural childrens books where heroines could slay the fiercest of dragons versus filling the typical princess in distress role. Out of this desire the Niyah Zuri series was born and Anna took the next few years to write and perfect her greatest literary work. Niyah Zuri & The Pharaoh's Throne hails as a time bending exploration of ancient lands lead by the headstrong Niyah Zuri and her best friends Miguel and Hugo Gonzales. This chapter book is geared towards upper elementary readers and comes equipped with a full glossary and free online resources for parents and teachers to access. Niyah Zuri & The Pharaoh's Throne is now available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Anna Nyakana-Nesmith lives in Hartford County, Connecticut with her husband and children.
