Join Bank Square Books and Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center for a creepy night at the Stillman Foundation at Coogan Farm to celebrate the release of bestselling author Raina Telgemeier’s newest book, Ghosts. This event costs $15 and includes a paperback book, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to DPNC. Space is limited, and advance RSVP is required. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a creepy walk to the Stillman foundation (optional), followed by a campfire at 6 p.m. with s'mores, an author talk and a book signing. Additional books will be available for purchase. Because of the limited space at this event, everyone who attends will need to purchase a ticket, and you will have the option to donate extra books to local schools and libraries. Please wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate gear to this event, and please bring a flashlight.
Coogan farm, sitting atop a hill with sweeping views of the Mystic River and the Mystic Harbor, is one of the town’s original homesteads. In 1888, the Stillman family bought the farm, and Thomas Stillman began to build a mansion on the property for his beloved wife, Elizabeth Greenman Stillman. When Elizabeth died suddenly in 1901, Thomas halted all construction and sold the farm, and to this day, the foundation of the home sits untouched. We will begin our evening with a night hike to the Stillman foundation, where we will tell the tragic story of the Stillman family and see if we can spot Elizabeth’s ghost. We will then gather around a campfire, where participants will munch on s’mores while Raina talks about her book and does a short reading for the group. After the campfire, books will be available for sale, and Raina can sign copies for fans.
About the Book
Catrina and her family are moving to the coast of Northern California because her little sister, Maya, is sick. Cat isn't happy about leaving her friends for Bahia de la Luna, but Maya has cystic fibrosis and will benefit from the cool, salty air that blows in from the sea. As the girls explore their new home, a neighbor lets them in on a secret: There are ghosts in Bahia de la Luna. Maya is determined to meet one, but Cat wants nothing to do with them. As the time of year when ghosts reunite with their loved ones approaches, Cat must figure out how to put aside her fears for her sister's sake—and her own. Raina Telgemeier has masterfully created a moving and insightful story about the power of family and friendship, and how it gives us the courage to do what we never thought possible.
