About the Author
Janet Lawler is an award-winning children’s author of more than 30 fiction and nonfiction picture books and early readers. Her work has appeared in Scholastic Book Clubs and the Children's Book of the Month Club and has been translated into several languages. She is a Connecticut Book Award finalist, winner of the Connecticut Press Club 1st place Award for Children’s Books–Fiction, and her work has received starred reviews.
Janet's just-released Oceans of Love (Viking, 2022) is a tender and humorous poem that imagines how ocean animal mothers show love to their little ones. Other titles include nonfiction titles Walrus Song (Candlewick, 2021) and National Geographic’s Rain Forest Colors and Ocean Counting.
Janet is a lifelong Connecticut resident. She was born and grew up in Milford, attended Connecticut College in New London and UConn Law School in West Hartford, and resides with her family in Farmington. She loves how words make music, and she marvels at the way illustrators add depth and detail her stories. Janet is fascinated by the natural world and enjoys finding humor and hope in everyday life. Visitors to her backyard include rabbits, hawks, bears, foxes, chipmunks, squirrels, turkeys, deer, and many birds.
