SAVOY: RI Writers Charles Kell, Elizabeth Foulke, and Sam Simas Read Their Works

Savoy Bookshop & Café presents a reading and book signing highlighting three local writers: Charles Kell, Elizabeth Foulke, and Sam Simas. This event is free and open to the public.

About the Poets

Charles Kell is the author of Cage of Lit Glass, chosen by Kimiko Hahn for the 2018 Autumn House Press Poetry Prize. He is Assistant Professor of English at the Community College of Rhode Island and associate editor of The Ocean State Review.

 

 

 

Elizabeth Foulke is a fifth year PhD student at the University of Rhode Island. She is the senior editor of The Ocean State Review. Her poetry and essays have appeared in Plainsongs, The Wayfarer, and Grub Street. Prior to entering a PhD program, Elizabeth taught English in urban public schools for twelve years where she shared her love of poetry and prose with her students.

 

Sam Simas is a queer fiction writer. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Copper Nickel, Carve, F(r)iction, Breakwater Review, Waccamaw, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, Flint Hills Review, Steam Ticket, and other literary magazines. His writing has been nominated for the 'Best of the Net' anthology and the Pushcart Prize, and he was selected as the runner up in the 2019 Breakwater Short Story contest. He received scholarships to attend the Ocean State Summer Writing Conference and DISQUIET International, and he received the Beatrice S. Demers Fellowship to study at L’Université de Rennes 2 in France. He has interned with Grub Street (Boston), The Ocean State Review, and Barrow Street Press. He works as a research librarian and lives in Providence with his husband.
