THIS BOOK STOLE MY HEART!
Beautiful book about being who you are and celebrating that. Supportive abuelas rule.

When a reporter arrives in town to cover the current trial, the sister of the murdered girl from years before begins leaving the reporter letters pleading for help. The town records mention nothing of assault or murder of her sister… only that she mysteriously passes during a night swim. A haunting read that will stay with you long after you put it down. *heavy content*

A book of pure mindfulness. This book will ground, center and calm you.

Humanizes the horrors of the Middle Passage. Illuminates those who fought back, took part, survived, and were lost. Delves in to the “floating dungeons” (that were the slave ships).

This book cuts like a knife. Edir is so ridiculously smart and observant. This book honestly floored me. Power, gender and racial dynamics mix with lust, boredom and control.

This book is flled with queer love, femme power and rising up against the patriarchy! Clever and deeply moving. Will make you want to cross palace lines under the cover of darkness and find the witch in the wood. Fresh twist on an old classic, but 200 years later.

Read this if you want something disturbing, hilarious and truely original. The book is one long monologue between the characters and a doctor. Absolutely brilliant and dizzying.

A witty, loveable, comforting queer dream. A lot has been said about this book and for good reason. Romance with time travel, New York City grime, queer history and swoon-worthy passages. One you can come back to again and again, forever.

This book was so bizarre and depraved but also comforting in a way that only a woman’s insanity can be. I was taken away by Taddeo’s writing style. It’s weird and cool and you will probably end up entertaining the idea of tattooing a line from it on your body somewhere. Might be my favorite book of 2021.

My, oh my. This book was unsettling, creative and absurdly unique. I have not read a book quite like this and I am not sure I will for some time. Not for the faint of heart, this book absorbed my headspace for weeks after reading it. How can we make sense of brutality? What stories of evil do we cling to? What do we ignore? Psychological mishmash of survival, pain and ignorance.

This book did exactly what I hoped. It talks about the complete insanity of accusing women of supposed witchcraft while ALSO talking about the reality of conjuring the devil in the woods of colonial Connecticut. The righteous revenge of this book is medicine for all those who have felt rage while reading about witch trials.

Okay so first, you will cry. This book is one of the top memoirs I’ve ever read. Powerful storytelling at its finest. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this book. Tarana Burke is an absolute gift to this world.

This book is necessary reading for absolutely everyone. This book brings to light the toll that oppressive systems take on the body and what we can do to save ourselves.

Voyeuristic, creepy and highly original in the way that almost makes you feel guilty for reading it. This book plays with the politics of power, longing and what it means to be seen.

Oh boy. The type of book that will cut you open and then you thank it for doing so. What if you could touch an object and see its future? What if you touched a family photo and saw your own brother’s death? This YA novel calls to question what it means to be a Black teen in America and the lengths we go to reverse what we believe is inevitable.

Part of a growing series that questions the villainized and overlooked characters of our childhood comes a deeply enchanting, queer take on the sleeping beauty fairytale. Spun with lyrical prose, a mysterious terminal illness and hilarious quips, ‘A Spindle Splintered’ deserves a read. If you’ve ever resented the lack of voice given to our quietest Disney princess, give this novella a try! You won’t regret it.

Who doesn’t love a haunted house book? An atmospheric, gothic horror that you will want to curl up with and read on a dark, cold evening. Bone-chilling and steeped in dread, in the best possible way, of course.

Deliciously macabre and fascinating to read, this book delves into the history and science behind books bound in human skin. Both rare and thrilling, this is one of those books that will cause you to look at humanity a different way.
